Jon and Margaret Scott have been global missionaries for the Church of the Nazarene from 1974. As of the end of 2011, however, they are now retired and living in Federal Way, WA (between Tacoma and Seattle).
Until 2011, the Scotts resided in the country of Malawi where Jon was the Principal of the Nazarene Theological College of Central Africa. Margaret was the Lusophone (Portuguese speaking) Field Education Coordinator and also the Chairperson of the Africa Region Course of Study. They had been in Malawi since July of 2007. Before their move to Malawi they served in Mozambique beginning in May 2002. The Scotts have been Nazarene missionaries since 1974. Previous to their assignment in Mozambique, they served in Portugal, the Azores and Romania. In each assignment they have worked in leadership development. They opened the work of the Church of the Nazarene in Romania in 1992 with an initial emphasis on compassionate ministries, and then education and leadership development. The Scotts are 1969 graduates of Olivet Nazarene University in Kankakee, Illinois. Jon received a degree in business administration, then the M.R.E. from Nazarene Theological Seminary; Margaret received a degree in biology secondary education from Olivet, then an M.E. from Eastern Nazarene College. She received her PhD in Education and Curriculum Design from the University of Pretoria in October of 2007. Margaret was ordained as an elder on the Washington Pacific District in 2004. Malawi, Southeast Africa![]() Malawi, a landlocked country in southeast Africa, formerly known as Nyasaland. Gaining independence from Britain in 1964, this little country was ruled by President Hastings Banda for 30 years, until he was ousted from power in 1994. Bingu Mutharika, elected in 2004, is the current president. Malawi has a low life expectancy, high infant mortality, and a high prevalence of HIV/AIDS. Read more ... |
