URGENT NEED:
|
New Years Greetings all! I have received the following urgent request from the DS in Banlgadesh. He writes: "I would like to let you know that people in Bangladesh are experiencing severe COLD this week. Last night 14 people died from the Cold. In last few days 4 Nazarenes have died including one Nazarene Asst. pastor. Please pray for their families. A cold wave is occuring all over the country, but especially in the North with thick fog for last few days. The weather forecast is saying that there will be another two cold waves coming this month. Now the temperature is about 9 degree Celsius. The weather forecast is saying that it come down to 5-6 degree Celsius. This will make the situation worse. Please pray for us." I have visited Bangladesh a number of times in "winter" months. I have seen women and young children dressed in light cotton clothes shivering in the cold. They try to wrap something (anything) around their neck and over their head like a scarf but it doesn't help much. In Bangladesh, people wear light cotton clothing year round and often have no heavier clothing or blankets because they are too poor to buy them. There is no central heating. Homes of the poor are made of mud and bamboo with rice straw roofs and offer little or no protection from the cold especially as the people sleep directly on the mud floors often on only a woven bamboo mat. The elderly, sick, malnourished, and very young, are especially vulnerable to the cold. When there is no heat and no warm clothes, even 9 degrees Celsius is very cold!" Blessings and thank you for praying and for considering this request and for sharing it with others! Elaine -- Elaine J.
